FUSO Insular
FUSO INSULAR – A Showcase of Azores Video Art is a part of the FUSO – Anual de Videoarte Internacional de Lisboa.
Despite the recurrent use of video in current artistic practice, a general history of art and of video art is necessary. FUSO INSULAR aims to reveal and foment critical thinking around new media, promoting the moving image as an artistic expression which is transversal to all practices, mixing the languages of experimental film, performance photography and cinema.
FUSO INSULAR is an initiative which presents video work, both contemporary and historical, selected by national and international curators who seek the unique in the field of new communication technologies and image creation.
In an attempt to contribute in a significant way to the dynamic of contemporary local art, FUSO INSULAR developed a creative laboratory which aims to enable the training of Azorean artists, investing in education as a way of transforming society.
With special attention given to the creation of new audiences, the promotion and enrichment of the knowledge of video art also implies the dissemination of works by Portuguese artists in the islands, thereby contributing to cultural diversity.
FUSO would like to be INSULAR and amplify its audience, promoting art in new exhibition locations spread throughout the Archipelago islands, using its enormous potential for past-present-future which, with their curators and artists, have established and constructed this history for 12 years.
We believe that this initiative may contribute to the growth of the Azores Archipelago as a reference for programming, creation and contemporary art thinking.
